Interested in living more communally with others also into mediative or contemplative practices. Meeting regularly to eat verge food together and share feelings.

We are a group of like minded people, wishing to find others who share our intentions for living. We have space for a couple more people and are looking for properties now to move t the stay of October.

To express your interest or to apply to join this co-op please tell us about yourself and your life situation, including your history of, and hopes about, shared living (Question 0). And then please share your experiences and feelings about each of the Cowley Conscious Coop (Housing Association)'s intentions (Questions 1 to 7). You can copy qnd paste these into your reply:

0) About You

1) A Home & Space for Evolving Consciousness (with a yoga/meditation/contemplation room)

2) Regular House Gatherings: Sharing Feelings & Collaborative Decision Making

3) Sharing Vege Food

4) Working Part Time

5) Caring for Our World by Living Sustainably

6) Music, Dancing, Art & Craft as Celebrations of Life

7) Growing Equality
Our living intentions are:

Here's a bit more about what we mean by them:

1) A Home and Space for Evolving Consciousness (with a yoga/meditation/contemplation room).

The main intention for the housing coop, is for it to be a space for personal development of the inner world (and hence the outer). We intend to have a room dedicated to the practice of yoga/meditation/prayer or other developmental/spiritual practices. We are keen to hear from people who already have a strong daily practice, or at least a serious intention to grow one.

The main two structural features of how we put this into practice will be regular meetings (with feelings sharing) and sharing veg. food. (see 2 & 3 below).

2) Regular House Gatherings: Sharing Feelings & Collaborative Decision Making

We are intending to meet every 2 or 3 weeks, to share, connect and make group decisions. The initial format for meetings will see the first hour giving each person a listening space so they can share any feelings they want without being interrupted. This is intended to be sharing on both a practical and emotional level on our lives in general, not just within the community. The second half builds on the sense of connection this brings, and provides a good space to discuss house proposals and make collaborative decisions that work for everyone.

3) Sharing Vege Food

We would like to source our food collectively, ethically, locally, & without meat. There will be a food cooperative in the house called oxFOOD, it’s been running in Oxford for 7 years. The aim is for a vegetarian household (with milk, cheese etc. in the fridge), with the daily shared meal being completely animal free (as there are likely to be a number of vegans involved) with members taking turns to cook in a way organised and developed at gatherings. It is not an aim that everyone should attend the meal every day, but that the availability of a good healthy meal is there, and that each member is willing to cook once a week to make this possible. (In previous experience people sometimes opt to eat in their rooms, or eat on arriving home late, but still very much appreciate having been cooked for).

Also very important to us are points 4, 5, 6 & 7 below.

4) Working Part Time

We are committed to working part time to allow a healthy balance of all areas of our life. We believe the cheaper cost of shared living, and sharing food will help support this way of life.

5) Caring for Our World by Living Sustainably

We aim to live as sustainably as possible; measuring our personal, and collective house carbon footprints, caring for the environment in a broader sense, and potentially eco-renovating a property.

6) Music, Dancing, Art & Craft as Celebrations of Life

To share in the playing of live music, and dancing, as a celebration of life. To create art and crafts as a celebration of consciousness ― or of any other aspects of life (it’s joys and it’s pains) that comes into inspired creation. We would like to have a permanent craft table set up in a shared area, as well as some communal use instruments in these areas.

7) Growing Equality

We aim to look directly at all types of oppressions, both within and outside the home, be they based on class, gender, sexuality, race, age, or anything else. It is hoped that house gatherings will provide a space to look at the subtle ways we can oppress each other, owning our feelings in a way which notices the roles of all in these patterns. We hope that the house will develop some excellent practices around gender equality, and people of all class backgrounds are welcome to apply (I am aware that this piece was written by someone with a mixed working & middle class background and am very open to discussing and potentially amending its contents or wording if I have said anything unhelpful with regards to equality). Furthermore we hope to have a mix of couples and single people, and a range of ages, including children.

We look forward to hearing from you,

Jennie, Michael, Emily, Anna, Toby x
