Hi! I'm Laurie. A 33 y/o writer-performer and tutor from London. Will get into brass tacks first and then introduce myself properly!
The room:
- A double room with a king-size bed
- The bed folds down from the wall, so you can either keep it folded down and use behind the curtains as storage, or fold up the bed and hide it behind the curtains for loads of floor space. If you don't like the whole folding situation, you could fold up the bed permanently and put a double in its place (or potentially a queen)
- Not seen in the photo are a south-east-facing window and a three-door wardrobe
- Even with the bed folded down there's decent floor space
The flat:
- Bills included: gas & electric, water, wifi, council tax, TV licence
- Everything's in pretty good condition as the landlord used to live here. She's my best friend from primary school, a lovely and reliable sustainability consultant, now based elsewhere with her husband
- Huge sofa with mounted TV – a great space to relax
- Kitchen has a small dishwasher
- Washer and dryer are in the cupboard upstairs
- Separate loo next to the bathroom, with a little sink
Would suit 1-2 days WFH.
Why the rent change?
I rent from my friend, and sublet to a flatmate. My current flatmate of 18 months is moving in with his girlfriend, so he's vacating mid-term. So, we'll be on the lower rent from the current contract until 20th July. We'll draw up a subletting contract and I'll put your deposit in the Tenancy Deposit Scheme. I'll also forward you my contracts (current contract, and the contract from 20th July 2024).
Will I be moving into a flat full of other people's crap?
No! All shelves and storage will be evenly split with the exception of the under-stairs cupboard, which only has a bit of space because it mostly contains flat stuff like the outdoor furniture cushions. The one exception is: I have a keyboard and electric drum kit in the living room, which I do NOT play during relaxation hours, don't worry! I pay £20/month more rent for this, as I realise it takes up space. See pic!
About me
As a flatmate, I love 'how was your day' debriefs if you're around, but I'm also very happy pottering around in silence if that's more the vibe that day. Right now, my flatmate and I are quite like siblings – we chat about how things are going and support each other, but we don't often do stuff together outside the flat as we've both got busy lives that we can barely keep up with! Sometimes we'll watch TV together (Gladiators, anyone?) and other times we'll vacate the living room for each other so one of us can have quiet solo TV time.
When I'm not working I tend to go to shows, the pub, dinner parties, etc. Occasionally I go *out* out, but a couple of years ago I started to prefer watching Strictly, so I guess I'm old now?! Some weekends I'm out a lot or working a lot, but others I'm just faffing about organising myself or watching Taskmaster (another recent TV discovery that everyone else made about ten years ago. Am I making a cool impression? No? What a surprise).
My passions include theatre, comedy, TV and film, music, yoga, running and hiking. But my current flatmate's a chartered management accountant who loves football and gaming and we have such a lovely flat vibe, so please don't feel like you need to be in the arts for us to get on!
Any questions, let me know. Also if you’d like a reference from my current flatmate, he'd be happy to provide further info. And the flat is queer-friendly, obvs.
