Hello, we are Maeve and Iga and we are looking for a woman or non-binary person to rent a room in our lovely home for 2.5-3 months. The dates are: start mid- end of October (earliest move in 13th October, latest 27th October 2024) until the 5th January 2025. Both housemates are queer women and are pesci/veggie/flexi-tarians.
The important details:
Just to be clear and upfront, this is a 10-12 week sublet only the dates are not flexible. You would be signing a contract with us that will specify that the rental period is for those weeks. A deposit in the amount of one month's rent (£550) is required.
Rent is £550 pcm and bills come to approximately £120 each month between council tax, electricity, water and internet.
The room is up a flight of stairs, so unfortunately not accessible for people with mobility issues.
We are a non-smoking and pet-free household, and although the room is a double, we cannot accept couples.
About the room:
This small room is furnished with a double bed and two chests of drawers. The room is carpeted and has a heating unit in it. While this is definitely a small room there is a bit of space to make it your own. You also have use of the big shared living room and garden. The rent is £550 + bills which come to around £120 depending on the season and increasing energy prices.
The flat:
The flat has two floors. Entry is direct from street level, and the ground floor has the kitchen, shared living room, small toilet, and our private garden. It is super colorful in terms of furniture and decoration, and we have lots of plants. Our favorite room is the shared living room because there is a full wall of windows leading out to the garden, so it's gorgeous and sunny during the day (if the sun comes out), and it's quite spacious with plenty of room to hang out and host. The garden has a small patio with a table and chairs for lounging in the summer, an apple tree and my housemates have ambitious plans for planting and growing things this year. The kitchen has all it all, washing machine, dishwasher, oven, microwave, etc. and for the coffee drinkers out there we do have an espresso machine. Upstairs are the three bedrooms and bathroom.
10ish minute walk to Brixton tube station with probably twenty or so buses also less than a ten minute walk away. 5 minute walk to Loughborough Junction Thameslink station. Great area, so close to shops, restaurants, cafes, etc.
The flatmates:
Iga (pronounced EEga) (she/her, 25) is a civil servant and her dream is to help make the world a better place (even if just a little bit!). She loves spending time with friends, pottering about in the outdoors and volunteering.
Maeve (she/her, 30) is a poet, youth worker, and community organiser with a deep love for plants. She collects seeds, grows flowers and makes skincare from infused soils (including soaps for the flat!) She loves cooking, sharing food and making spaces feel homely.
Flatmate preferences/requirements:
- LGBTQ+ woman or non-binary person
- Values cleanliness and tidiness in their home (this is really important to us!), and will commit to our cleaning rota
- Values direct, kind and clear communication
- Wants a chill, calm energy in the house; we aren’t a party house and we see this space as our post-work sanctuary and safe place
- Respects the space and its occupants
- Respects everyone’s need for alone and recharge time, but also desires connection, chat and quality time with flatmates
- Environmentally-conscious (we are keen recyclers and composters, and try to use natural cleaning products etc.)
If you are new to London and looking for a short term place while you get your bearings, or if you are a current Londoner who is just between situations in this crazy housing market, this might be the flat for you! If our message resonated with you and you fit what we are looking for please drop me a message with a little bit about yourself! Oh, and say “grapes” somewhere in your message so we know you actually read the whole ad :)))))))
