I am looking for a lodger to stay in my spare room, either a postgrad student or young professional.
First the details of the house, then a bit about me afterwards.
HOUSE:
I have renovated the entire house myself, and have really tried to make every room feel like it has a purpose — I have lived in several student accommodations and know the feeling of the “everything-in-one” bedroom. The rooms (with brief description) are:
DOWNSTAIRS:
Living room: the living room is decent sized and has a 50” ambient lighting TV and sony dolby atmos surround sound system connected. I also have a PS4 with a handful of games. The chairs are very comfortable (especially the recliner one!), and I have tried to arrange the room so it is also a space you can sit and talk to people.
Dining room: the dining room is massive. It has a 6 seater dinning table with chairs, a beautiful aga, a large 6ft fridge freezer. In the next few months I am planning to build some full length shelving on the back wall of this room.
Kitchen: the kitchen has a tonne of space, which is helped by the large pantry. It has a washing machine, drier and dishwasher all installed too! The hob is a 4 ring gas hob.
UPSTAIRS:
The bedroom: the bedroom is a decent sized double bedroom that has a single door wardrobe and a chest of drawers, as well as a bedside table and large standing mirror. Note: the radiator in the bedroom has been upgraded, the picture is just from before the current lodger moved in.
Bathroom: the bathroom is good sized, and has a whirlpool bath as well as a rainforest shower!
Office: The home office is a good size (it is an old double bedroom) and has a massive 2m+ desk as well as a functional blackboard wall. There is plenty of room in the office for us both to work at the same time. Note: I will box off the boiler in the office soon to make it look nicer!
Loft: There is plenty of loft space for storing any bags etc, to save space elsewhere.
The house is well connected to the uni (there is a direct bus that takes approximately 10/15 minutes — the bus is also only £1 all day for students), and if you have a car there is on street parking. There is a small coop at the top of the road, but it is only a short trip to dragonville where there are more shops than you could ever want.
I have fibre optic broadband that often hits over 300Mbps (just did 485.42 on a check) on wifi and about 1000Mbps through Ethernet cable.
Rent also includes a TV licence.
ME:
I am a math/physics PhD student at Durham uni in my second year. I like to think I’m a pretty easy to get along with guy, and my main hobbies include DIY, music and jiujitsu. I bought the house in 2020 and have done almost all of the renovation work myself, which has been both a very enjoyable and very stressful project.
Please note: a non-student will have to cover the council tax, as well.
Sorry, the room is no longer available
