A comfortable double room is available from 1st June in a warm and welcoming household in the heart of Grantchester, one of Cambridge's most coveted villages. Rent includes all utilities, council tax and broadband, so there are no hidden costs.
The house has a lovely large garden, a beautiful kitchen with built-in appliances and a recently refinished pantry, a sitting and dining room, a small library, a full bathroom upstairs and a newly remodelled shower room downstairs. The room itself has a double bed, recently redone hardwood floors, a wood wardrobe and chest of drawers, and a lovely view of the garden. There is also a secured bike garage and a new washing machine.
We are a friendly household and our prior lodgers have become close friends. I am an academic who often works from home, my husband is retired, and our current housemate that is remaining works for a Cambridge college. Our other housemate has been with us for over ten years but is leaving the UK for new adventures, which is how this room has come to be available. She will be sorely missed!
We are looking for a single individual who works or studies outside the house during the day. When you are home, there is plenty of space to have a little time to yourself, or to wind down in company if you prefer. We welcome professionals, postgraduates and academics who are after something quiet and welcoming.
Brooke and Rupert are very much part of the household and we would love for you to feel the same way about them. Brooke is an 11-year-old Alsatian, friendly, gentle and usually quite settled. Rupert is a one-year-old cat who is convinced he is in charge (the jury is still out). Being comfortable around a large dog is essential, though my husband vacuums daily and we have a rear space for drying Brooke off after walks, so the house neither looks nor smells like animals lives here.
If you have a green thumb, you are very welcome to plant what you like in the garden. We are slowly working to make it something even more beautiful, and we try to keep the house as sustainable as possible by reducing waste, recycling, composting and being sensible with energy. That said, we like it comfortably warm in winter, and have added thick curtains alongside new blinds and radiators throughout to help with that.
Grantchester is a proper community and a genuinely lovely place to live. The house is three minutes' walk from Grantchester Meadows and the river, six minutes' cycle from Waitrose, fifteen minutes from the city centre, ten minutes from Burwash Manor, and fifteen minutes from Addenbrooke's. In the village itself there are four pubs, a little coffee shop, the famous Tea Garden, a village hall, a cricket team and an active local church. But Cambridge is close enough that village life need not be your only option.
Please do email me at any time and I will get back to you promptly to arrange a chat or a visit. We look forward to finding out whether this might be a good fit.
