ODD HUT SUBLET AVAILABLE FOR 2 MONTHS (CATFORD, LONDON)

The Odd Hut, a small cooperative living community in Catford, has a room available for sublet.

The room is available from 5th August to 5th October (2 months initially). Rent is £900 per month with all bills included, plus shared household essentials (such as food staples, toilet roll, and occasional communal purchases where funds allow).

THE ROOM

The available room is the largest in the house, located on the top floor, with an en-suite shower room. It has stunning views, excellent natural light, and a quiet sense of space and privacy across the top of the house.

THE HOUSE

The Odd Hut is a cooperative home of creative people living together in Catford. We share a large house with two gardens and generous communal spaces. Life here is organised collectively: we share responsibility for food, cleaning, maintenance, and household finances.

We eat together weekday evenings, with each of us cooking once a week (if someone is out there’s a Tupperware of food waiting for them). We run rotas for cleaning and household care.

We are looking for someone open to communal living, shared responsibility, and contributing to the emotional and practical upkeep of the house.

We welcome applicants receiving Universal Credit. Please note: the property is not step-free (there are 25 steps from street level to the front door)

LOCATION

The house sits in a great position in Catford, between two beautiful green spaces perfect for the summer: Ladywell Fields and Blythe Hill Fields. Both are within easy walking distance and offer nature, open space, and wide views across London.

There are good local amenities nearby, with transport links via Catford and Catford Bridge stations, as well as Honor Oak Park Overground. Free on-street parking is also available

CURRENT HOUSEMATES

The Odd Hut is currently home to a small group of creative and collaborative people:

* A photographer and PhDer who enjoys sharing resources at home and at her community darkroom. She grew up in the Paris banlieue with family from France, Vietnam and Algeria, and moved to London to study and work in a pub in 2006. She likes having apéro, reading in the garden and walking at a leisurely pace.
* A gay visual artist whose parents came over from the Caribbean, but who grew up in London. She spent some time DJ-ing in Holland back in the day, then returned home with a bagful of metaphysics. She loves painting, podcasting, discovering and discussing, walking along the river, using her hands for cooking, creating and fixing stuff, and listening to music.
* A white trans person from Liverpool who feels most alive when they are in water or on their bike, learning something new, or building gentle connection with people in the quiet. They speak alright Spanish, and are learning Basque.
* A translator with a side-hustle as a performer. After growing up in some of the more non-descript parts of the East Midlands, he travelled Europe, living in some of the more non-descript parts of France, Germany and Sweden. In his spare time, he enjoys identifying bird calls and working out the quickest way to get somewhere by bike.
* A Latin American migrant, teacher & researcher currently finishing her PhD. She is temporarily subletting her room while away, and has been part of the house’s communal life, enjoying nature and shared living in a cooperative setting.

COMMUNITY LIFE

We are a cooperative household and hold a monthly meeting where decisions are made collectively. We also celebrate birthdays, host creative events (film nights, karaoke, garden gatherings), and maintain shared rhythms of care through cooking and cleaning rotas.

Communication, mutual support, and shared responsibility are central to how we live together.
