We are letting out the spare bedroom in our home, ideal for a young LGBT person (students/young professionals preferred) looking for a comfortable family environment.
I am a queer, transgender working professional and I co-parent my two primary age children, meaning they live in the house with me 50% of the time. If you've had to leave your family home because of homophobia, transphobia - or for any other reason - come join ours!
The house has an unusual layout with all the other bedrooms and a small office upstairs, a conservatory that we use as a playroom in the middle of the house and an open plan dining area/living room with a fireplace in between. There are a lot of windows and a good sized garden with a patio, and space for 2 - 3 cars to park on the drive at the front.
The spare bedroom is a good size, currently furnished with a double bed, chest of drawers, full-length mirror and an odd ornamental table that doubles as a desk. It's on the ground floor at the front of the house and next to the kitchen (which is also a really good size). You'll be the only person using the downstairs bathroom for showers/baths, as the kids and I have bathrooms upstairs by our rooms.
I'll admit we're a little quirky - there's usually several half-finished craft projects lying around, the chances of finding a random bit of carpentry hardware or a roll of LX tape on the nearest surface are pretty high and for some reason you're never more than a couple of metres away from a stuffed hedgehog. We also have a large, extremely fluffy cat.
Location and logistics-wise, we're in between Chessington and Ewell which means we've got great transport links and it's really easy to get most places. The bus to Kingston goes every 10 minutes from the stop less than 5 minutes walk away, also stopping at Surbiton for fast trains. Chessington North station is a 15 minute walk, then just over half an hour to London Waterloo. The A3 and the M25 are both close by too, making it super easy to get both in and out of London by car. There's a number of shops including Sainsburys, Tesco, Boots, Nisa and Co-op within a 10 minute walk, as well as a couple of cafés and pubs, and more further afield but still walkable. Horton Country Park is just round the corner with plenty of paths for walking and cycling, and a golf club if you really want to go wild!
