Mon- Fri means this is for someone who works in London during the week but lives elsewhere on the weekends.
Available from beginning of February as my current lodger has decided his job isn’t a good fit.
First off, location, since that’ll be really important.
8 minute walk to Shadwell DLR & Overground or buses are right outside. 1 stop to Bank, or a 10 minute bus takes you to the Aldgates or the 135 goes thru Liverpool Street to Old Street. Whitechapel is about a 15 minute walk. My previous lodgers all used bikes mostly. If you don’t have your own, there’s heaps of Santander ones outside.
My 2 dogs passed recently so I’m now fostering (see photos of the lovely Jasmine, who will be with us for at least a few months).
Jas is the smooshiest dog you could ever hope to meet. You’ll get big barks at the door but she’s learning all the sounds other people make and after the hello, she’s up for anything- attention mostly, maybe food, but she’ll also leave you alone. There’s a big babygate to stop her wandering down the hallway, so you’ll be very “pet free” if you prefer.
The flat is L shaped, with your room down one side away from the main living areas. Large (3.5mx3.5), south-facing, with a great Warren Evans bed & mattress.
All bills, cleaning supplies and toilet paper included in the price as I buy all that refillable, plastic-free stuff. If you plan to do laundry, you’d need to buy your own detergent, otherwise I’ll make sure your sheets and towel are washed over the weekend. Bedding and towel is included if you want, so no need to bring your own but feel free.
WiFi is decent at 150mbps.
The kitchen is a great size, sunny & with a good collection of kitchen gadgets. Everything is there for you to use, including a Nespresso, nutri-bullet, Instant Pot & a Ninja air-fryer/ grill thing. If you’re cooking there’s cupboard space for you and feel free to use my spices and whatnot rather than buying your own.
Bathroom is simple & clean with a very good hot shower & the living room is cosy. I’ll be honest- I would right now describe the decor of the flat as “tired” but that doesn’t affect your room, which hasn’t been used for over a year and is the nicest room in the house, imo. The terrace is amazing and south facing, with a gazebo giving an extra room shaded from the sun and protected from the rain, along with a bbq & seating for 6 under an umbrella (not shown)
There’s a brilliant corner shop next door that sells an incredible range of foods or there’s a couple of Tescos and Sainsbury’s all within easy reach.
The George is the lovely local pub, with (sometimes questionable) live music, and quite a few others depending on your tastes. The area is great, there’s a city farm 5 minutes away to pet some goats, lots of parks & beautiful squares, an old church (“the bells of Stepney” from the “oranges & lemons” nursery rhyme). It’s quiet & safe (I used to regularly walk my dogs at 3am in Stepney Green) and all the action of the East End is only a stone’s throw or quick nip on a bike away.
