One room to fill! I've loved living in a friendly, sociable mixed house and want to keep that same good-energy vibe going.
A bit about me (Emrys):
I am a teacher and tutor who works flexibly, online and in person (several times a year I am usually out of the country for a few weeks each time with work). I am a big fan of a communal atmosphere: think group cooking, chilled hangouts, board games, deep chats (the BIG talk), and sometimes the occasional joint creative project (gardening, making furniture for the house etc).
I completely respect that home is often a place to relax, unwind and have privacy. But for me, the people you live with also have to be people whose company you enjoy.
The other house mate (Otilia):
I am Otilia, 26 years old and from Denmark. I am about to begin my PhD, looking at peace, justice, and children’s voice in education. Alongside this, I really like spending time with people: long hangouts, cooking together, grabbing pints, random and deep chats, going dancing, and chilling out. I also teach yoga a few times a week in town, and I spend quite a bit of time outdoors, hanging around port meadow in the sunshine!
As Emrys, I respect that home is a private and safe space to rewind, but enjoying the company of the people you live with is so important for that:)
The house:
The house is on Rickyard Close, just by the station (on the right side of the road works). It has four bedrooms, two en-suites, and an extra bathroom and a half. Only three of the rooms are used, and the fourth room is a shared office/spare room/project space. It has been perfect for working from home, having guests over or just having some breathing room (I occasionally use it to do some painting).
There is a small garden that has some outdoor sofas, a hammock, bike storage area and a shed. An open-plan shared living space with good space for having friends over or relaxing on an evening. The kitchen is practical (a little on the small side) and has managed to have all three of us cooking separate meals at the same time. The house is currently furnished, but a few bits will leave. It has all the main appliances including dishwasher, washing machine and dryer.
It is in a great location for being right on the edge between central Oxford with the station and colleges on one side and the river, canal and Port Meadow on the other. Great for getting both into town and out for a nice walk and some nature.
There is dedicated parking right outside the house, which can be discussed for an additional fee.
The room:
The room is an en-suite and furnished with a bed and built-in wardrobe, plus other odds bits of furniture around the house and in the attic that are welcome to be rehomed in there (such as bookcases). Located on the middle floor it also looks out onto the back garden and parking area, so is quiet. The pictures of the room aren't great as they are from the inventory when we moved in. But, I also have a document I can send with a load more pictures of the room and en-suite from the inventory.
Sort of people I am looking for:
I am looking for people who are fun, considerate, and easy to get along with: someone who values a relaxed and respectful home, but is also up for the odd late night or spontaneous gathering. I am open to anyone and am just keeping it to individuals rather than couples for space reasons.
If this sounds like it could be a good fit, I'd love to chat more and maybe grab a drink to see if the vibes align.
The rent does not include council tax (band E), which, with additional bills (broadband, water, energy, etc.) usually comes to around £150-190 per month on top.
