For the last three years I've been a tenant at this lovely flat opposite QMUL but unfortunately I now need to leave this cozy room behind. The flat is on a family-friendly council block opposite QMUL and available from April 15th 2026
Location:
The Mile End campus is just a 5 minute walk away, with Stepney Green tube station and Mile End tube station likewise 10 minutes walking, and plenty of bus lines even closer. The location is perfect for students getting to campus easily and getting around London at convenience.
Floor plan:
The flat itself is a well-furnished former council flat. Featuring 1 1/2 bathrooms: a toilet and separate shower room and only three rooms, you won't be waiting around constantly. The kitchen comes with your standard fridge, freezer, washing machine and microwave with a few other shared appliances including a toaster, rice cooker and blender. There is plenty of storage for three people, and high-quality and well-maintained kitchenware - but welcome to bring your own!
The room:
I've included both vacant and occupied pictures of the room so a prospective tenant can get a feel for it. The room is a spacious double room living room conversion. There's a double bed, wardrobe, cabinets, bookshelf, lamp, coffee table and sofa as well as an additional small storage closet with an electric fan for hot summer days and a drying rack (as there is no living room). An added perk is the ethernet port meaning you'll always have the fastest (1GBps) internet. With all of the above, there is still ample floor space for exercise if desired.
There's a large window with a view onto a small courtyard and a beautiful old tree which is currently blossoming. Thanks to the large window, the room is well-lit with natural light.
The rug and cushions were my own purchases but I'm happy to leave them behind by request since I won't need to take them with me to my next accommodation.
The housemates:
You'll be sharing the flat with Ewan, a consultant at DEFRA, and Archit, a Ph. D student at QMUL. Both are very relaxed people open to some socialising at home but we are all quite busy, so it's not a party house. We've always been very relaxed about guests but a headsup is appreciated, and if there's a social gathering then just be respectful about noise, usage of space, and try to keep it to a weekend.
Bills:
For the boring parts: bills. Luckily, this flat is very cheap in terms of utilities. Our most recent bill balances are as follows (and split between three):
Water: £27
Energy: £71
Internet: £32
That's £43 per month each for frivolous and uncautious use of heating
Council tax:
Council Tax Band B: £120*
*Due to students living in the property, the council tax is reduced by 25% to £90 between three people. Student tenants are exempt from council tax.
A prospective student tenants will pay £0 council tax.
A working tenant will pay £45.
The Landlady:
I thought it was worth noting that we've always had a great relationship with the live-out landlady, Lilia. Generally she's hands off and respectful of our space and time, and when it comes to any repairs of maintenance work she'll carry it out in a very timely manner with no fuss at all.
Viewings:
You are welcome to contact me directly to arrange a viewing, best on a weekend or weekday evening with some notice. If you would prefer to have your viewing with or without the landlady or other housemates present please let me know so that it can be arranged.
