Ground floor single room in a lovely Victorian house, with your own en suite bathroom just off the room, so no queuing for the bathroom in the morning.
The room itself has a calm, cosy feel with deep blue walls, a proper desk nook (great if you work from home occasionally or study), and plenty of natural light through the original sash windows.
You'll share a bright, comfortable living room with a working fireplace and a good sized kitchen with washing machine and gas hob. My room is upstairs, so you'll have genuine privacy and your own space downstairs. This isn't a house share where everyone's on top of each other.
Location:
Walking distance to Reading University campus, so ideal if you're studying or working there. Reading city centre is easy to reach too (no more than 15 minutes), with several bus routes all within a 2 minute walk from the house. For anyone commuting to London, there are endless trains running all throughout the day from Reading station to Paddington that take under 30 minutes.
The details:
£700 PCM
Single room, en suite bathroom
Free parking (private)
Shared kitchen and living room
Bills excluded (Wi-Fi included)
No specific house rules, just be considerate of shared spaces
Open to anyone
Who I'm looking for:
I'm genuinely not fussy about who applies, age, background, profession, nationality, all welcome. What matters far more to me than a CV of boxes ticked is that we get on and that the house feels comfortable for both of us.
That said, a few things would make you a great fit: You don't need to be house-proud, but you should be happy doing your fair share when it comes to keeping the kitchen and living room tidy. It's a shared space, so it works best when neither of us leaves it for the other person to sort out.
I'd love someone who's up for the odd chat in the kitchen or evening on the sofa, but who also respects that sometimes people just want to shut their door and have a quiet night in. I'm not looking for a best friend from day one, more someone easygoing where a genuine friendship can grow naturally if it's there.
Since I live upstairs and you'd have the ground floor room to yourself, this setup actually works really well for someone who values their privacy and independence, while still having someone around if you fancy company. The house has a relaxed, lived-in feel, not showhome-perfect, but warm and comfortable.
I keep things straightforward. No long list of house rules, just the basic stuff: be respectful of shared spaces, be considerate about noise, and communicate if something's not working so we can sort it out like adults rather than letting it build up.
Ultimately, I want this to be a home, not just a room with a lock on the door, for both of us.
A bit about me:
Hi! I'm Federico, the person who actually lives here, not a letting agent, so you're getting the real, unfiltered version of both me and the house.
As my name suggests, I'm not British, I'm Italian, 24, and yes, that does mean the coffee in this house is actually drinkable! ;)
I work full time and split my week between the office and working from home, so I'm not someone who's constantly around, but I'm also not a ghost, you'll see me. I travel fairly often, and I like getting out and about.
When I'm not working, or travelling, you'll usually find me either playing/watching tennis or football, or glued to the TV for an F1 race (fair warning, race weekends are sacred). I'm also a big animal lover, so if you've got a pet or just enjoy them as much as I do, that's an instant bonus. And most evenings that don't involve sport, I'm probably curled up with a good film.
I've lived in the UK for a good while now, but I'm actually still fairly new to Reading myself, so there's a good chance we'll both be finding our favourite spots in the city together. I already know that a house can have the nicest kitchen in the world, but if it doesn't feel easy and comfortable with the person you're sharing it with, none of that really matters.
So here's the honest bit: I'm not just trying to fill a room. I'd love to find someone I click with, someone I can chat to over dinner, swap film recommendations or football opinions with, maybe even watch the odd race together. If you're tidy, easygoing, and like the idea of a house that feels a bit more like a home, I think you'll be really happy here.
Come see the place, meet me, and let's see if it feels right for both of us.
