This is more than just a room — so please read to the end, because there's lots more space that will be mostly yours.
Imagine higher-end living in one of Cheshire's most sought-after villages: enjoying peace and tranquillity on the banks of the River Bollin, and a thriving, picturesque village right on your doorstep. This is laid-back, lovely living in the heart of the golden triangle — and genuinely not to be confused with cheaper rooms dressed up as something they're not.
The room itself is a stunning double, boutique in style, set within a riverside townhouse and overlooking well-kept lawns which you're free to relax on. It features a designer double bed with orthopaedic mattress, open wardrobe, bedside cabinets, generous under-bed storage, mirror, stool and shelving.
Here's the best part. As the live-in landlord, I mostly keep to the lounge and kitchen on the middle floor — so while the ground-floor spaces are technically shared, in practice they'll be mostly yours to enjoy. That includes an Arabesque-style lounge with a designer corner sofa and classic recliner, a separate contemporary kitchen/dining/utility room (hob, oven, microwave, fridge-freezer, washing machine and dryer), and a contemporary bathroom with bath and shower.
Bi-fold doors open from the lounge onto a balcony above a BBQ and decking area next to the river and a beautiful conservation area - perfect for morning coffee. Step down to the decking and let the river do the rest; you'll often spot fish, and the herons that treat this stretch as a regular haunt. Fancy a barbecue? That's on the menu too.
Or wander two minutes into the village, where you can dine at Base Pizzeria, The Bridge, Baccus Champagne & Oyster Bar, The Coast, The Leigh Arms or the Indian Thali — or settle in for a drink at the historic 17th-century Admiral Rodney coaching house, The Fox Hole and others.
For staying active, the village alone has squash, tennis, golf and cricket clubs, plus yoga and pilates in the village hall. Within a five-minute drive you've Macclesfield Leisure Centre, The Tytherington Club and the spa and health club at Champneys, Mottram Hall — three more gyms and two more golf courses. And if you walk or cycle, you're in paradise: two minutes from open Cheshire countryside and lanes made for riding.
Transport is excellent. The station is a five-minute walk (one by car), with regular trains to Manchester (29 mins), Macclesfield (7 mins), Birmingham (1hr 19) and London (2hr 17). The M60 is around 20 minutes by car.
And it gets better still: you'll be in the affectionate company of Sir Walter Kipling, a dog who adores people and entertains with his propeller tail. (Much as we love him, sorry — no additional pets.)
The essentials: £995 pcm including all bills · deposit £995 · available 1st August · minimum six months · furnished · parking · WiFi · non-smoking home. Ideally suited to a settled professional or retiree who'll appreciate the calm and the quality.
