-- The Community --

Hello! We are five people who have formed an Intentional Community together in Cambridge and are looking for a sixth family member.

“An intentional community is a group of people who have chosen to live together cooperatively in ways which reflect their shared core values and goals” - Foundation for Intentional Communities.

Our community is all about growing as people and about creating meaningful bonds. This can mean breaking out of patterns of how we’ve related to others in the past, experimenting with new ways of living, and opening ourselves to each other in the most honest way we can.

Emotional and material support is very important to us. We want everyone to feel that this is a place where they are deeply cared for. It’s important to us that if you join we make you feel like you are one of us and part of our lives too.

We tend to be politically minded, open to new experiences, and looking to learn.

We like to share what’s going on with us. Sometimes this involves ‘checking in’, where everyone takes turns to share their experiences without interruption or comment. Sometimes this involves more structured activities and sometimes it involves just chatting over breakfast in the kitchen.

We take turns to cook healthy and vegan communal meals every evening (though we aren't all vegan) and most food is shared and bought through a shared account. On most Sundays, we have a meeting where we discuss community issues. Community decisions are made via consensus.

We like to have lots of bonfires in the garden and listen to music in the kitchen. Since there’s six of us, our house is a sociable environment. We’re always having a laugh with each other. Some of us enjoy doing yoga and meditation together. We often take walks in the nearby parks and in town. We like to try out different activities and sometimes we do crafts.

When lockdown is over, we’re looking forward to being a positive force in our community and building a network of like-minded people in the city. We’re also looking forward to the nights and adventures we’ll have together.

We value building a community made up of diverse lived experiences so that we can learn from each other’s perspectives and use this knowledge to have a greater impact on the world around us. We welcome all applications and encourage applications from LGBTQ and BIPOC people.

We are looking for someone who is not just interested in the fun houseshare we have, but keen to get involved in the process of what we’re doing. We’re attuned to different abilities to participate and contribute at different times. What’s important is that you like what we’re doing and would like to invest effort in being a part of making it better.

Please send us a message telling us about yourself and what makes you excited to get involved in something like this. If it seems like we’re looking for similar things, we’d love to speak to you.

“So that this world that we imagine in this room might be used to gain access to other rooms, to other worlds previously unimaginable.”

-- The House --

Our current house is a wonky Victorian semi-detached property, with all the standard amenities. It's got a big kitchen-dining area where we usually hang out, plus a loft and a garage, which we've converted into communal areas. We’ve got a frequently enjoyed garden, with a second bonus garden that we’d love to show you!

The room is a master bedroom with excellent built in storage space, lots of natural light and a view overlooking a gorgeous magnolia tree.

We’re on Histon Road in the North-West of Cambridge (CB4 3NF). We are very close to the M14, Cambridge’s science parks and bus connections, and are a 10 minute cycle from central Cambridge.
In September, we plan to rent a property with more communal space.

Emily, 22, - She’s a Teaching Assistant in a local secondary school. She likes to sing, play guitar. She meditates all day long and does yoga from time to time with C and A. She likes cooking lentil stews and is really good at listening to people. She wants to become a psychotherapist. She is passionate about emotional growth and being radically vulnerable.

Aatif, 25 - Aatif has a gentle, empathetic personality. He prefers quiet environments, 1-on-1 interaction, and cares a lot about emotional attentiveness. He is strongly motivated by fairness. Creative things like reading plays together, painting, playing with 3d pens and clay are things he’s enjoyed doing with the house. He looks like this 8)

Zuheir, 29 - Zuheir is currently finishing his PhD at the University of Cambridge. When he is not stressing about his work, he loves connecting with people through a series of light-hearted banters and group activities (including a round at the pub!). He works out very regularly and is passionate about self-growth. He dabbles a bit in mindfulness and meditation as a part of self-development and enjoys exchanging these experiences with others. Z is an excellent cook and finds enjoyment in cooking for others.

Conor, 28 - Conor is interested in politics, philosophy, music, meditation and cooking huge meals. Outside of lockdown he is involved in community organising. In the summer, he loves making fires and barbecues. He is a designer of medical devices and hair stylers.

Alice, 21 - Alice is a lab assistant , when she is not busy saving lives by testing blood samples she is a committed member of the plant parent committee. A is looking forward to lockdown ending so she can go back partying with her queer gang.
She can’t wait for you to meet them!
After a long day there’s nothing better than coming back home to a chosen family.
