I am looking for a new housemate to move into a gorgeous 1820s terraced cottage with new rear-extension and courtyard garden, in the centre of Cambridge.
You would have a small double bedroom (upstairs), as well as you own living room on the ground floor, which can be used as wanted (as home office, living room, dressing room etc.). These rooms come partly furnished, and I am looking for someone who wants a home, and not just a convenient place to sleep.
Orchard Street is a picturesque street in the heart of Cambridge. There are great local pubs, and Little Waitrose, the Grafton Centre and Grand Arcade are a 2 minute walk from the house. The train station is a 5 minute cycle ride. The house is meters from the 3 main parks (Christ's Piece, Parker's Piece and Midsummer Common) and an ideal location if you row, play tennis or love swimming (indoor and outdoor pools).
The cottage was restored and extended to an incredibly high standard in 2016: Hardwood flooring, original brick flooring and tiles throughout. Your bedroom would be carpeted. Lime render with Farrow and Ball paint throughout. There is secure covered bike storage.
The house has 2 double bedrooms, 2 living rooms (one of which I use as my office, the other one would be yours) and a bright modern kitchen with electric hob, oven, dishwasher and fridge/freezer, and a utility cupboard with washing machine. The bathroom is part of the modern extension and shared.
I have a wonderful cleaner who comes every other week to clean the entire house.
Please note that your share of the household bills will range between £250-300/month, further to your rent. This includes your share of council tax, wifi, g&e, water and the cleaner, and a small budget for shared sundry (cleaning supplies, loo paper, water filter etc)
I have been living in the house since 2017 when I started my PhD in Architectural History (Robinson College), furnishing it with a lot of love and care. Since completing my PhD I work for Historic England and lecture at Cambridge University and for NYU in London. This is my permanent home and as someone who loves to cook, garden and has a busy working and social life, I am looking for someone reliable, tidy and clean, social and friendly, and who will respect and appreciate that this is a home (and in Cambridge's best location!).
I'm very social and outgoing, love to cook, gardening and being outdoors (hiking, yoga, reeling, skiing, horse riding), reading and music. The house is fantastic for entertaining, but equally it is important to me that privacy is respected because I work a lot, often from home and late in the evenings. Because of the set up of the house, it is very easy be together, as well as for each of us to have private space.
The 6-month lease would start ASAP and would just keep automatically running afterwards, with the notice period being 2 months. The estate agents involved are Bush & Co and financial vetting/references are a requirement.
The 2 rooms come partly furnished so you can really put your stamp on making this your home. As my current housemate is moving to Australia, she is looking to sell some of the furniture she had purchased for the house (wardrobe, desk, chest of drawers and clothing rail), if you are interested in purchasing those items (£200).
