Hello
We have a lovely big room available for a single, emotionally-intelligent woman in our all-female household, consisting of Joan, 83, and me, 58.
THE ROOM
The master with en suite is located on the top floor of our three-storey house (up two flights of stairs). It's furnished with a super king size bed, chest of drawers and fitted wardrobe. It overlooks a park and gets lots of natural light.
The room is on offer for a single woman only, not couples or overnight stays by partners.
THE HOUSE
You will have shared use of:
- The kitchen/diner with all white goods and kitchenware, plus space of your own for food storage.
- The ground floor cloakroom, with guest WC.
- Shoe rack by the front door.
- This summer we expect to convert the office into an extra space for you to share also, for dining and/or lounging.
You will have your own off-street allocated parking space.
The back garden is small and connects the house with the allocated parking spaces. We plan to turn it into a productive area for food and/or wildlife, so it isn't somewhere for dogs to do their toilet. However, in addition to the park right opposite the house, there are other small areas closer still for dogs to go.
JOAN AND I
Joan is the owner of the house, and she has mobility issues. She spends the day sitting in front of the TV, knitting. Her hearing ability fluctuates, and I am deaf, so the TV always has subtitles on and the sound off.
I care for Joan. I was born hearing and I speak clearly.
We are omnivores, but most of our diet is vegan wholefoods. I cook a big lunch every day. Dinner tends to be leftovers or something quick and simple, so the kitchen is usually mostly free in the evenings.
I clean the house, so you would only have responsibility for your own room.
Joan and I always keep the planet in mind whenever we do or buy anything. We don't kill insects. We reduce, reuse and recycle. We keep our house comfortable and use what we need, but we turn off lights, radiators and taps where we don’t need them, to save energy and water. We avoid chemicals, and we provide all the natural cleaning products for our home, including for your room.
YOU?
Do you share our reverence for the planet, and willing to help us achieve the balance of being comfortable yet energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly in our house?
Do you go out to work several days a week, so you are not negatively impacted by the space I take up and the mess I make in the kitchen when I cook lunch, but which I clear up by around mid-afternoon (I can keep it simpler during weekends)?
Are you emotionally-intelligent and communicative, so that if you are unhappy about something related to the house or us you will speak to us openly and calmly about it and gives us the chance to help?
And also willing to understand my needs as a deaf person, and adjust how you communicate with me accordingly?
If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to these questions – we would love to hear from you.
PETS
We welcome house-trained and well-behaved pets. Very unfortunately, as we adore them, and unless you can guarantee otherwise, we cannot accept cats because we have just had sisal carpet laid on the stairs, and it's almost 100% certain it will be seen and used as a massive scratching post. For other types of pet, as we are at home almost always, your pet/s would have company all day.
OTHER
All the usual bills are included, including broadband and Council Tax (Tax band is D). You would pay separately for your personal phone and contents insurance.
